Glossary
Agent — a reusable AI assistant with its own model, instructions, skills, tools and knowledge. See Agents.
Artifact — a standalone piece of work (document, code) the assistant produces, shown in the canvas side panel. See Canvas & artifacts.
Auto (Smart-Select) — the default chat setting that routes each prompt to a suitable model automatically.
Connection — a configured link to an external service (Slack, Google Workspace, …) with encrypted credentials. See Connections.
Coordinator — a lead agent that delegates sub-tasks to team agents and synthesizes the results. See Agent orchestration.
Crypto-shred — erasing data by destroying its encryption key, making the ciphertext unrecoverable. See Encryption.
Delegation edge — a dashed canvas connection from a coordinator to a team agent, defining who it can delegate to.
DLP — Data-Loss Prevention: scanning text for sensitive data to audit or redact it. See Data protection & GDPR.
Knowledge base — a reusable, searchable collection of documents used to ground answers. See Knowledge bases.
MCP — the mechanism behind niil's built-in tools; tool servers expose capabilities agents can call.
Organization (tenant) — your isolated workspace. Data and policies are scoped to it; no other organization can see it.
Passkey (WebAuthn/FIDO2) — passwordless sign-in using your device's biometrics/PIN or a security key. See MFA & passkeys.
Persistent workflow — a long-running workflow that stays alive for interactive chat instead of finishing after one pass.
Project (workspace) — a grouping of related chats in Secure Chat.
Residency / EU-only policy — the rule that restricts an organization to EU-processed models. See EU sovereignty & residency.
ZDR (Zero Data Retention) — providers not retaining prompts/outputs after a request. See Zero Data Retention.
